A sample answer
Tell me about a deal you lost.
I lost a large deal late, to a competitor, after six months. Looking back, I'd only built a relationship with one champion and never met the finance lead. Since then, I map the buying group by week four and ask to meet the budget holder early. My win rate improved over the next two quarters.
A made-up example to show the structure. Use your own experience and real numbers.Common mistakes
- Pitching before asking questions.
- Vague numbers or round claims.
- Blaming marketing or product for losses.
- Forgetting to ask for the next step.
Practise this out loud
Run a mock interview for an Account Executive role. Questions change every time, you answer by voice or typing, and each answer gets a score with feedback.
