Mobile Developer interview questions

Mobile interviews focus on what's specific to phones: lifecycle, offline use, battery, and shipping through app stores.

What interviewers look for

How the interview usually runs

  1. Recruiter call.
  2. Coding task, often building a small app.
  3. Architecture discussion.
  4. Behavioural round.

Stages vary by company, so ask the recruiter what to expect before you start preparing.

A sample answer

How do you reduce app startup time?

Our app took over three seconds to open on mid-range Android phones. Profiling showed three SDKs starting up at launch. I deferred two until after the first screen and lazy-loaded a large module. Cold start fell to about 1.3 seconds, and we added a startup check in CI.

A made-up example to show the structure. Use your own experience and real numbers.

Common mistakes

Practise this out loud

Run a mock interview for a Mobile Developer role. Questions change every time, you answer by voice or typing, and each answer gets a score with feedback.

Frequently asked questions

Should I specialise in iOS or Android?

Follow the job. Deep platform knowledge is valued, though cross-platform skills widen your options.

Do I need published apps?

They help a lot. Even a small app in a store gives you real stories on releases.
